Important Classroom Procedures
Classroom Materials:
Each student is required to have a daily Agenda/Planner to write down all classroom assignments. These will be provided at the beginning of the year. Each student should also be prepared each day with appropriate classroom supplies. We recommend scissors, colored pencils, 1-2 glue sticks, fine tipped markers, a few pencils, and a hand-held pencil sharpener.
Homework:
Your child will be assigned work during the day for which he or she is responsible to complete. If for some reason your child is not able to complete an assignment, it will automatically become homework and generally be returned the following day.
In addition, students will be given a small practice packet to work on throughout the week.
ELA practice packet will be sent home each Tuesday, and returned the following Tuesday.
It is the student’s responsibility to keep track of due dates in his/her agenda, and return assignments to the appropriate area without reminders. Work that is not returned on the due date, could result in deducted points from the student’s “Accountability” grade. Assignment due dates will be posted on the classroom board and should be written in his/her agenda.
Late Work:
Students will start each quarter with 25 points towards an Accountability Grade. Each time an assignment is turned in late, 1-2 points could be deducted from this grade. This also applies to being prepared for class with basic supplies each day. This grade does not apply if a student has been sick and has been given extra time to complete an assignment.
Homework Folders
These folders are designed to help students stay organized. Students must bring them to class each day. They will be used for handouts, news, and any other parent-school correspondence, as well as unfinished work that needs to be completed and returned.
Agendas
Students are required to bring an agenda to class each day to keep track of daily assignments, important due dates, announcements, and weekly reading minutes.
Discipline: We will be implementing Granite Mountain's Green, Yellow, and Red Zone procedures both inside and outside of the classroom.
Our basic classroom rules are simple and easy to remember:
- Be prepared for class.
- Be respectful and treat others as you would like to be treated.
- Raise your hand before taking a turn to speak.
Trustworthiness, Caring, Responsibility, Fairness, Citizenship, Respect
Behavior Consequences:
1. Verbal warning.
2. Removal from working group, and conference with the teacher.
3. Reflection Note is sent home to be signed by a parent and brought back the next day, and the student receives a lunch detention. If the infraction is on-going, or the student is doing something to hurt himself or others, they will be sent directly to the office to consult with our Character Coach.
Attendance:
It is important that your child has regular school attendance in order to be successful. We understand illnesses and unexpected family issues. If you know your child is going to be out of school for a few days, please let me know, so I can help your child stay on track with assignments.
Please Check Powerschool
Parents, this is a great way for both you and your child to keep up with his/her progress in school. We encourage you to check this site regularly. Your child will have a login name and a password to check their own progress as well.
